Today I ran the Hadlow to Harbour 10km run in Timaru.
The run started at 9.30am on the outskirts of Timaru...the temperature was already soaring by this stage (high of 27 was forecast). I relished the water tables...though not much of this water went down my throat - most of it was thrown over my head to cool me down.
There were plenty of people running...even kids. Dressing up was encouraged - my favourite was a group of young boys who dressed up as fairies (make-up and all!). Although I found the run tough-going, I still managed to beat my goal time (albeit by 1 minute) and got a time of 74 minutes.
Next week I am running the City to Surf (12km) which I want to run in the same time or less...we will see.
At the end of the race, there was water and apples to help yourself to...plus spot prizes. My entry number was one of the lucky numbers and I got a $10 petrol voucher. Yay! :)
I was very lucky and had lots of support. Along the way a family friend, Lois Kirkwood, was standing outside her house cheering me on. Also, my parents and Malcolm did a fabulous job driving to various parts of the route, to take photos and give encouragement. It was very much appreciated. A GREAT BIG THANK YOU!!!
My good friend, Tracey, decided that she might like to run the Hadlow to Harbour too. She is not a runner, and this was her first effort - she did amazingly well (even with a slight hangover!). Go girl!
Here are some pics...
Now I am back to running at least 3x during the week (3-4km) and a longer run in the weekends (at least 10km) until the half-marathon.
