Today I ran (with a little bit of walking...but not much!!!) the Christchurch City to Surf (12 km). My goal was to beat my last year's time and complete the race in 1 hour and 15 minutes. Today my time was 1 hour and 19 minutes, which means I did not achive my goal - I did beat last year's time by 10 minutes though!
In all fairness, however, I do have a fairly good excuse. For most of yesterday I was either in bed or sitting on the loo with a case of the runs - ew!!! I am still suffering today.
The race started very well, I even managed to run 5kms before walking briefly for 30 seconds. The tenth km was the shocker! Just as I ran past the "3 km to go" sign, my stomach began to churn, gripe etc and I knew that I had to get to a loo ASAP. At the "2 km to go" sign there were a few port-a-loo's so I immediately deviated from the track and went to the loo.....BUT! In my immediate state of mind, I forgot to lock the door...I was just focussed on down-trowing and going about my business...a few minutes later when I was finally feeling a bit better (and holding my nose) I realised that I hadn't locked the door...I am about to lock it when the door flew open and I am sitting eye-to-eye with a boy (about 8 years old)...before i could react by covering myself up (my knickers and shorts being around my ankles) the boy let out a massive "Phew! What a stink!" and slammed the door closed! How embarrassing!
So...if I hadn't needed to use the loo I daresay I would have beaten 1 hour and 15 minutes.

Congratulations Keeney, that was a great effort, especially if you were feeling sick. Bugger about the embarrassing toilet incident!
